Etymology: Hyphessobrycon: Greek, hyphesson, -on, -on = a little smaller + Greek, bryko = to bite (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dr Alberto José Fernández-Yepez was a Venezuelan ornithologist, and the author’s brother. The etymology states that Alberto dedicated his life to natural science, and “departed too soon” (translation). A biological station is also named after him. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
