背面の脊椎 (合計) : 0; 背鰭 (合計) : 20 - 23; 肛門の骨: 0; 臀鰭: 23 - 26. SL/Depth 3.7-4.8. Head 3.9-4.7 x SL, 3.6-5.2 x bigger than eye diameter. Pectoral fins 1.1-1.4 x head length, posterior end reaching origin of pelvic fins (which is 1.7-2.2 x length if pectorals). Dorsal and anal fin origins at same level. Caudal peduncle height 2.1-3.2 x of its length. Color uniformly dark, almost black (Upper Niger); Middle Niger individuals light colored with small dots of melanophores.
Body shape (shape guide): short and / or deep; Cross section: compressed.
Affinities: sympatric with P. isidori.
