Etymology: Paracobitis: Greek, para = the side of + Greek, kobitis, -idos = a kind of sardine; also related with the voice Greek, kobios, Latin gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335).

背棘 (總數) : 3; 背的軟條 (總數) : 7; 臀棘: 2; 臀鰭軟條: 5. Without scales and with deeply forked caudal fin. Adipose keel above the caudal peduncle well developed. Anal opening located distinctly anterior to the anterior anal fin origin (Ref. 31729); slit-shaped posterior nare opening (vs. ovoid or roundish in all epigean species of Paracobitis in the Middle East except P. longicauda and P. rhadinaea) (Ref. 97574).
