Body and head massive, cylindrical; snout blunt; cheeks slightly swollen; anterior nostril pierced on front side of a flap; processus dentiformis present; no median notch in upper lip, lower lip with a median incision; lower jaw with a median notch; lateral line complete; anus about 1-2 eye diameters in front of anal-fin origin; 8.5 branched dorsal-fin rays; 5.5 branched anal-fin rays; caudal fin emarginate, with 9+8 branched rays; axillary pelvic lobe present; body greyish brown with poorly contrasted pattern in adults; body with about 12-15 bars between dorsal-fin origin and caudal fin, additional bars present in front of dorsal fin but indistinct, except upper extremities which do not reach dorsal midline but form two series of dark blotches parallel to dorsal midline or sometimes fused to form two stripes; bars thinner than interspaces; black bar at caudal-fin base more or less complete, with posterior projection at lower extremity, curved forward at upper extremity; dorsal-fin base with a black spot anteriorly, followed by a hyaline patch and a low elongate grey blotch; caudal fin orange in life, with a red patch occupying from a few rays to most of the upper lobe (Ref. 36949). Series of very narrow bars on side, not reaching dorsal and mid-line in individuals 3-5 cm SL; in front of dorsal fin origin, a longitudinal series of small irregular blotches on each side of dorsal mid-line (Ref. 43281).

身體與頭部大的, 圓筒形的; 吻鈍的; 頰些微腫大; 前鼻孔在鰓蓋的在前面側邊上刺穿了; 活動 dentiformis 呈現; 在上嘴唇中的沒有中央的凹槽, 下唇具有一個中央的切口; 下頜有一個中央的凹槽; 側線完整; 關於臀鰭前面起源的 1-2 眼直徑的肛門; 8.5 分枝的背鰭鰭條; 5.5 分枝的臀鰭棘條; 尾鰭邊緣微凹的, 藉由 9+8個分支條; 腋窩的腹鰭葉呈現; 身體灰褐色的具有貧乏地當成魚時對比圖案; 關於 12- 的身體有在背鰭起點與尾鰭之間的 15條橫帶, 附加的橫帶出現在背鰭的前面但是不明顯的, 除不達到背部中線的最上層但是形式二個成列的黑色斑塊平行於背部中線或者有時融合形成二條斑紋; 超過間隙的橫帶稀釋劑; 黑色的橫帶在尾鰭基底約略完成, 藉由在後部的突出在最上層被向前彎曲的低的末端; 背鰭基底前面地具有一個黑色的斑點,跟隨著一個透明的小區塊與一個低的細長灰色的斑塊; 尾鰭橘色的活著時, 具有一個從一些鰭條到大部分的上葉佔領的紅色的小區塊.(參考文獻 36949) 在側邊上的數列非常狹窄的橫帶, 不達到背部的與在個體 3-5 公分 SL 中的中線; 在背鰭起點之前, 縱向的數列在背部中線的兩邊上的小的不規則的斑塊.(參考文獻 43281)
