背面の脊椎 (合計) : 15 - 17; 背鰭 (合計) : 19 - 21; 肛門の骨: 7 - 9; 臀鰭: 15 - 17. Diagnosis: A member of the deep-bodied clade of Paretroplus and distinguished from all congeners by the presence of a pinstriped lateral pigmentation pattern comprising numerous longitudinal series of prominent black spots on the flanks, owing to the presence of one large spot on each scale; Paretroplus is also unique among congeners in possessing a conspicuous black interorbital stripe and suborbital blotch (Ref. 78623).
