Etymology: Synchiropus: Greek, syn, symphysis = grown together + Greek, cheir = hand + Greek, pous = foot (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dr Judson de Land of Philadelphia, “to whom I am indebted for American fishes”, seems to have been one of Fowler’s large circle of specimen-providers. By the time of the description, Fowler refers to him as ‘the late’ Dr Judson de Land. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
