Etymology: Bryconamericus: Greek, bryko = to bite + America, latinized (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Yoki Román-Valencia is, we assume, the author’s wife – since, in the etymology, he addresses her thus: “…my dream witch, for her pains and patience with a husband who loves little fishes”. [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Robust and deep body; a rhinosphenoid in front of the orbitosphenoid; absence of cartilage; a process on the post-ventral margin of the orbitosphenoid; a pointed process on the ischiac, and the first two pterygiophores in front of the anal fin inserted on the second vertebra of the spine (Ref. 49957).
