Etymology: Oreoleuciscus: Greek, oreos = mountain+ Greek, leykiskos = white mullet (Ref. 45335); angusticephalus: Named for its most typical character of being narrow-headed.

Apparently similar to other piscivirous form of Altai osman with individuals having a long life duration (more than 40 years); reaching maturity at 8-9 years at body length of 20-24 cm. The young feed on plankton with fish as predominant food in the diet of the adults. Spawning occurs in May and June, with eggs laid on the sand, pebble, vegetation (spawning time and place partly coincide with O. potanini (Ref. 57727).
