Etymology: Parosphromenus: Greek, para in the side of + Greek, osphromenos, osphrainomai = to smell (Ref. 45335); rubrimontis: Named from the Latin ruber (red) and mons, montis (hill, mountain); named for Bukit Merah, a town near the type locality whoe name means Red Hill.

背棘 (总数) : 11 - 12; 背的软条 (总数) : 5 - 7; 臀棘: 13 - 14; 臀鳍软条: 6 - 8. Dorsal fin with 11-12 spines. Anal fin with 13-14 spines and 6-8 segmented rays. In live male, dorsal, anal and caudal fins with a narrow bluish margin and a black subdistal band bordered proximally by a narrow bluish iridescent band.. Proximal part of dorsal and anal fins from black along body, grading into red distally. Proximal part of caudal fin deep black, surrounded by a bright red patch. Pelvic fin and filament black, except for iridescent blue basal third (sometimes entirely blue) (Ref. 56232).
