Etymology: Pachypanchax: Greek, pachys = fat + Panchax, a word created by Meinken in 1932 word created by Meinken in 1932; sparksorum: Named for John S. and Karen Riseng Sparks, who first documented the presence of a distinctive Pachypanchax in the Ankofia drainage and collected much of the type series (Ref. 57724).
Eponymy: John Stephen Sparks (d: 1963) is an American ichthyologist who is senior curator (2012– present) at the Department of Ophthalmology, American Museum of Natural History and Adjunct Professor at the CERC and the EEEB. [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Dimensione / Peso / Età
Inhabits shallow areas of rivers where it seeks shelter along the banks or among rocks. Feeds on small shrimps and terrestrial and aquatic insects. Preyed upon by aquatic insects and fish-eating birds (Ref. 57724).
