Etymology: Metahomaloptera: Greek, meta = after, with + Greek, homalos = flat + Greek, pteron = wing, fin (Ref. 45335); longicauda: From the Latin longus, meaning long, and caudal, meaning the tail. This is in reference for the longer caudal peduncle of this species when compared with Metahomaloptera oemeiensis and M. oemeiensis hangshuiensis.
