Etymology: gaucheri: Named for Philippe Gaucher, who found the first specimens, for its fascinating work on Amazonian fauna.
Eponymy: Philippe Gaucher became (2007) Scientific Director of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and Mission Parc de la Guyane, Cayenne, French Guiana. He co-wrote: The Tailless Amphibians of French Guiana (2000). He found the first specimens. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

背的軟條 (總數) : 8 - 9; 臀鰭軟條: 13 - 15; 脊椎骨: 31 - 35. Differs from other species of the genus by a combination of characters including dorsal and anal fin ray counts, number of scales in lateral and transverse series, by the lack of the supracaudal spot at all ages in both sexes, a short base dorsal fin, a yellow color background on body, a red colored sub-distal area on anal fin in male, with a yellow one in female, and a dark margin on caudal fin (Ref. 78216).
