Etymology: Danionella: Vernacular name fron India and Sri Lanka; diminutive; priapus: The specific name was derived from the greek Πρίαπος, the god of fertility of Greek
mythology. This is in reference to the conical projection of the genital papilla in males, which at a superficial level is reminiscent of the penis of mammals.
