Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 78 - 84; Rayons mous anaux: 64 - 69; Vertèbres: 45 - 46. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: ocular-side pigmentation pattern with a series of white spots and blotches without accompanying crossbands (the only member of this genus with this feature); a scaleless, well-developed pectoral fin on the ocular side; the ocular-side pectoral fin having the second dorsal-most ray longer than the first fin ray (Ref. 55726).
