Dorsale stekels (totaal) : 20 - 22; Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal) : 50 - 55; Anale stekels: 3; Anale zachte stralen: 49 - 51; Wervels: 72 - 74. Belongs to the Macrognathus aculeatus species group but can be distinguished from all other species of this group by the following combination of characters: 8-10 rostral tooth plates; 20-22 dorsal-fin spines; and ocelli along dorsal fin developed as small irregularly arranged dark spots or absent (Ref. 83418).
