Etymology: Chrysiptera: Greek, chrysos = golden + Greek, pteron = fin, wing (Ref. 45335); caesifrons: Name from Latin meaning 'bluish-grey forehead' ('caesius' for blue-grey and 'frons' for forehead or brow); referring to its distinguishing colour pattern; third declension compound adjective in the feminine nominative singular.

This species is distinguished by the following characters: D XIII,12-14 (usually 13); A II,12-14 (usually 13); pectoral rays 16-18 (usually 17); gill rakers on first branchial arch 4-6 + 11-13 = 16-19 (usually 17-18); tubed lateral-line scales 16-18 (usually 17). Colouration: alive it is overall pale yellow to whitish with dark bluish (nearly black) to grey region encompassing snout, upper head and adjacent anterodorsal part of body and spinous dorsal fin (Ref, 103843).
Cross section: compressed.
Found on rocky substrates, frequently close to shore and often in gullies just below the surge zone at depths of about 1-6 m. Generally solitary or in small, loose groups (Ref. 103843).
