Etymology: Psammogobius: Greek, psammos = sand + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335); pisinnus: Name from Latin 'pisinnus' meaning small or little; referring to the exceptionally small maximum size in comparison to congeners.

collected from a gentle slope (approx. 20%), with mixed patches of live coral and sand-rubble (about 10-20 m) and was encountered solitarily or in loose pairs. Individuals had fully erect the first dorsal fin, which is then gently undulated when the fish is approached at close range by a diver (Ref. 115084).
