Found in shallow-water estuarine, in estuaries of rivers, streams and mangroves, typically much more coastal in distribution than the frequently inland P. olorum (likely in part relating to the topography of higher gradient streams along the Great Dividing Range habitat of south-eastern Australia, compared to the lower relief in south-western Australia). Co-occurs with P. aquilonius and P. jeffi at its northern distribution range (Ref. 126575).
