This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: body relatively deep and oval, its body depth at pectoral fin base 2.3-2.4 in SL, at mid-trunk 2.1-2.3 in SL; dorsal-fin origin is above or slightly anterior to the pectoral fin base; preopercle with a short and pointed triangular spine not or nearly reaching the posterior margin of the interopercle; dorsal-fin base, 1.6-1.7 in SL; anal-fin base, 2.3-2.6 in SL, relatively long; eye small, its diameter 2.4-2.6 in HL; interorbital space is broad, its width 3.0-3.3% HL; head length 1.2-1.5 in body depth; caudal-peduncle length 3.0-3.8 in body depth; pored lateral-line scales 60-65; lateral scale rows along the body axis 85-89; transversal scales rows 12-15 + 47-51 = 59-66 (Ref. 115564).
