Épines dorsales (Total) : 3; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 7. This species is distinguished by the following characters: last unbranched ray of the dorsal fin is flexible and devoid of serrations along its posterior edge; differs from its congeners by the presence of two pairs of barbels; complete lateral line with 26-29 scales; circumpeduncular scales 12; D III,7; with a longitudinal series of black spots, sometimes confluent, on the flank above the lateral line; pre-dorsal scales 12-13; scales between the lateral line and the middle of the belly, 4.5-5.5 (Ref. 132400).
Cross section: compressed.
This species was collected from the upper stretch of the Muyovozi River, above the Nyaganza
(I and II) Falls (a left bank affluent of the uM basin) and these localities were characterised by a moderately weak water flow, sandy substrate, sometimes mixed with gravel; and grass banks with or without Phragmites (Poaceae). Of the three localities sampled, specimens were collected in medium to large schools (ca. 50 and 130 specimens). Also, both the other sympatric species of the Enteromius lineomaculatus species complex (E. lineomaculatus or E. quadrilineatus, are absent from the upper stretch of this affluent (Ref. 132400).
