Etymology: Cirrhilabrus: Latin, cirrus = curl fringe + Greek, labros = furious (Ref. 45335); aquamarinus: Named after the brilliant teal to aquamarine males, an unusual color shared with no other species of Cirrhilabrus.

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of coloration and morphological characters: pored lateral line scales 21-25 (16-17 in the dorsoanterior series, 5-8 in the posterior peduncular series); head bright yellow, bright orange posteriorly to predorsal region; opercle, base of dorsal, caudal, anal, and pectoral fins are inky blue to indigo (blue-black when preserved); upper two-thirds of body bright aquamarine to teal in life (Ref. 126788).

Occurs in shallow exposed rubble at depths between 5-20 m (Ref. 126788).
