It is a large whitefish characterized by moderate pigmentation on its fins and body. Its flanks above the lateral line display a light to dark greenish-blue hue, with moderate to numerous small pigmented dots on the scales along the flanks and dorsum. The species is deep-bodied, a robust caudal peduncle, a short head, a sub-terminal mouth, and small eyes set within thick, triangular-shaped sockets.
