This species is distinguished by the following characters: complete lateral line complete with 28-33 pored scales )mode 31); circumpendicular scales 10-12 (mode 12); one pair of conspicuous oral barbels which surpass vertical through middle of eye (Ref. 124213).

Inhabits perennial streams with oligotrophic water as they mostly drain over Table Mountain sandstone Unknown reporduction datails, but spawning may occur around November- December, based on redfin minnow, Pseudobarbus observations that are also endemic to the Cape Fold Ecoregion which is a winter rainfall period (Ref. 124213).
