Etymology: Liobagrus: Greek, leio = smooth + Mozarabic bagre, Greek, pagros = a kind of fish (Dentex sp.) (Ref. 45335); chenhaojuni: Name 'chenhaojuni' in honor of Mr. Hao-Jun Chen, who assisted in the field survey.

Dorsale stekels (totaal) : 2; Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal) : 5 - 6; Anale zachte stralen: 15 - 17. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: smooth posterior edge of the pectoral-fin spine present; upper jaw is longer than the lower jaw; maxillary barbels reach the middle of the pectoral fin; irregular blotches on the lateral body present; rounded caudal fin, with length ranges from 16.5% to 19.9% standard length; 9-41 post-Weberian vertebrae; the anal-fin rays range from 15 to 17 (Ref. 137453).
