背棘 (總數) : 2; 背的軟條 (總數) : 8; 臀棘: 2; 臀鰭軟條: 5; 脊椎骨: 35 - 36. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: prominent adipose-like skin crest present on the dorsal margin of the caudal peduncle; an interrupted supraorbital canal; small premaxilla, smaller than the maxilla, with an accentuated constriction on its lateral portion; interopercular odontodes 37-44; minute pectoral-fin filament, about 10 % of the pectoral-fin length or less; dorsal-fin origin at the vertical through the centrum of the 16th vertebra; spotted colour pattern; pectoral fin 15.1-17.7 % SL; slender body, more conspicuous in specimens between about 45 and 50 mm SL; no sexual dimorphism in colour pattern (Ref. 137707).
