Etymology: Corythoichthys:Greek, korys, korythos = helmet + Greek, ichtys = fish (Ref. 45335); quattuordecim:Name 'quattuordecim' from the Latin word meaning 'fourteen', in reference to the 14 trunk rings in the new species.

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: trunk rings 14; total rings 51 or 52; pectoral fin rays 16 or 17 usually 16; dorsal fin origin behind posterior margin of anal ring; opercle with a denticulate longitudinal ridge; opercle with two or three black lines; absence of rows of pale spots on dorsal fin; venter of anterior trunk rings without blotches, spots, or lines; and venter of anal ring without black blotch (Ref. 137735).
