Etymology: Pollimyrus: Because of Dr. Max Poll, ichthyologist + Greek, myros, -ou = the male of the morey eel; ibalazambai: Named after Professor Dr. Armel Ibala Zamba (1975–) (Université Marien Ngouabi, the Republic of the Congo) for his contributions to African ichthyology and his work in the Luki River basin (DRC) within the framework of his PhD (2005–2010).
Eponymy: Dr Max Fernand Leon Poll (1908–1991) was a Belgian ichthyologist, and ‘connoisseur of the fish fauna’. [...] (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Short description
Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics
Dorsal soft rays (total): 17 - 21; Anal soft rays: 25 - 28; Vertebrae: 38 - 41. This species is distinguished by the following characters: tail slender, 15.3%-19.2% BD; snout block-like; pectoral fin short; anal and dorsal fins concave; with small, widely spaced, symmetrical teeth with clear cusps; head short, 20.9%-22.8% SL; dorsal fin short, 20.4%-23.9% SL; anterior nostril placed higher than the posterior one (Ref. 138541).
Body shape (shape guide): short and / or deep; Cross section: compressed.
The river is about 12 m wide and 60 cm deep, flowed at a speed of 0.3 m/s. The banks of the river were grassy, the canopy above the river covered about 10% of its surface only. Bottom of the river consisted mostly of sand with some mud, gravel, and pebbles. The following physicochemical parameters were collected at the type locality: water temperature about 22C, pH 7.6, salinity 0.1 ppm, and oxygen level of 7.3 mg/L (Ref. 138541).
