Etymology: Glyptothorax: Greek, glyptes = carver + Greek, thorax = breast (Ref. 45335); pulcher: Name 'pulcher' from the Latin word meaning 'beautiful', in reference to the attractive colour pattern of the new species.

Duri punggung (Keseluruhan (total)) : 1; duri punggung lunak (Keseluruhan (total)) : 6; Sirip dubur lunak: 7 - 8; vertebrata, bertulang belakang: 35 - 36. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: distinctive colour pattern; skin with sparse tubercules; soft and similar in texture to skin; dorsal surface of head smooth; TAA broad (length of 1-1.2 times its width, width of TAA12.0-14.3% SL); adipose-fin base short (11.7-15.4% SL); and caudal peduncle deep and short (13.7-17.5% SL in length, 10.3-12.3% SL in depth) (Ref. 138565).
