Etymology: Eigenmannia: From Eigenmann, 1910, researcher of faunistic studies (Ref. 45335); robsoni: Named for Robson Tamar da Costa Ramos, ichthyologist, for his contributions to studies of the Caatinga ecoregion, especially in the Parnaíba river basin; patronym.

This species, a member of the E. trilineata species-group, is distinguished by the following characters: anal-fin hyaline; absence of enlarged eye 16.2-21.3%; caudal filament short, 19.9-36.4 % LEA; no lateral line stripe; no superior midlateral stripe; A 182-228; scales rows above lateral line 12-15; scales on lateral line 107-131; premaxillary teeth 32-34; dentary teeth 35-44; endopterygoid teeth 9-12; depth of posterodorsal expansion on infraorbitals 1+2 half as long as infraorbitals 1+2 length; basibranchial 1 unossified; precaudal vertebrae 13; coronomeckelian bone length corresponding to 20% of length of Meckel’s cartilage (Ref. 138579).

Recorded in perennial and intermittent rivers with clear and lentic waters, sandy substrate with lots of aquatic vegetation. In perennial rivers, the riparian vegetation is typical of the Cerrado, with palms of Mauritia flexuosa, while in intermittent rivers, the riparian vegetation is the
'fringe forests', dominated by palm trees such as Copernicia prunifera (Ref. 138579).
