Etymology: yahayai: Name 'yahayai' in honor of Ibrahim Yahaya from Comoros (CnDRs) , for his work on the fauna of this archipelago.
Eponymy: Ibrahim Yahayai is head of the Département Biodiversité terrestre, Centre National de Documentation et de Recherche Scientifique des Comores (CNDRS). He was honoured “in recognition of his work on the fauna of this archipelago” (i.e. the Comoro Islands). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: 14 pectoral rays; a large body depth at anus (26-36% SL) and at first dorsal fin (26-39% SL); and transverse forward series 17-20 (Ref. 126456).
