This species is distinguished from its congeners of the E. trilineata species group, by the following characters: premaxillary teeth, 32 in 4 rows; dentary teeth, 35-39 in 2-3 rows; shape of the vomer with extensions separated at the posterior end; number of teeth in the upper pharyngeal plate 5-6 (Ref. 138580).
