Espinhos dorsais (total) : 2; Raios dorsais (total) : 7; Espinhos anais: 2; Raios anais : 5. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: dorsal surface of the head between orbits slightly convex; RDB2-clade by a colour pattern of LDPZ3 in specimens above about 45 mm SL, consisting of a dark brown stripe interrupted in its posterior portion; longer pectoral-fin filament (filament length about 30-50% of the pectoral fin); relatively long interopercular patch of odontodes, longer than the largest horizontal length of the hyomandibular anterior outgrown; ribs (13); postero-lateral process of the autopalatine postero-laterally directed, its length about two thirds of the autopalatine length; the second hypobranchial short, about so long as the third hypobranchial; the posterior process of the parurohyal short, about half the distance between the anterior margin of the parurohyal and the anterior insertion of the posterior process; paired S6 pore; opercular odontodes (11-15); anterior section of the infraorbital canal present; eight pectoral-fin rays; pointed mandibular teeth (Ref. 137859).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated; Cross section: oval.
