Etymology: Australoheros: From the Latin word 'australis' meaning southern, and the name Heros, after the nominotypic genus of the Heroini tribe. Tribe; mboapari: Name 'mboapari' from the type locality of the new species, Rio das Antas, which was previously known as Mboapari. A noun in apposition.
