This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: dorsal-fin rays XI,14; pored lateral-lines scales 44-45; a series of 9-10 pores along the ventral edge of the suborbital; maxilla scaly; suborbital deeply notched above the posterior end of the maxilla; second dorsal-fin ray short, 6.5-6.8 in SL; first pelvic-fin ray filamentous; body mainly uniform olive-brown with a pale area posterior to pectoral fins; and membranes of the posterior part (between spines IX-XI) of the spinous dorsal fin black (Ref. 138836).
