This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: abdomen totally covered with small to medium-sized, irregularly shaped plates; small, bony plates, anterior to gill openings absent; 12-15 coalescing lateral scutes; thoracic plates (between pectoral and pelvic fins) fold sideways; eyes relatively smaller, its diameter without notch fits 12.0-12.7 times in HL; body less wide at anal-fin origin 10.4%-12.0% SL; and six or seven wide and dark transverse bands, posterior to dorsal-fin (Ref. 138934).
