Etymology: Chrysichthys: Greek, chrysos = golden + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Henri Paul Delhez (1870–1900) was a Belgian artist and naturalist who made collections of fishes in the Congo, and whose field observations Boulenger found most useful in the preparation of his book on Congo fishes. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Africa: lower to upper Congo River (Ref. 78218), but only in the lower Congo basin according to Ref. 3236, which reidentifies specimens from the middle and upper Congo basin as C. cranchii and C. habereri respectively.
