Etymology: Insperanos: Name from Latin 'īnspērāns' for unexpected, alluding to the surprising discovery of an ancient
lineage of Anostomidae represented by I. nattereri, plus the four first letters of Anostomus referring to the type genus of the family, following the practice of previous authors who described genera in the Anostomidae (e.g. Pseudanos Winterbottom, 1980;
Petulanos Sidlauskas & Vari, 2008).
