Etymology: Sturisomatichthys: German, sturio = sturgeon, 1525 + Greek, soma = body + greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335); guaitipan: Species epithet 'guaitipan' named after Gaitana, an indigenous heroine from the 16th century, who occupied the Colombian Andes in the upper Magdalena valley (Ref. 132346).
